If you’ve ever wondered what skiing in China is like, let me share my experience at Chongli Thaiwoo, a resort that’s quickly becoming a favorite among winter sports lovers. Just an hour from Beijing by high-speed rail 🚄, it’s close enough for a weekend escape yet feels like a completely different world.

In this post, I’ll share my personal journey at Chongli Thaiwoo, covering accommodations, coaching, snow conditions, and options tailored to different skill levels.

🧘 Comfortable and Convenient Accommodations

Finding the right accommodation can truly shape the success of a ski trip. In Chongli Thaiwoo, there’s a wide range of options designed to keep guests cozy and comfortable after a day on the slopes.

During my stay, I chose a ski-in/ski-out hotel with direct access to the runs. The room was spacious, spotless, and featured large windows that framed breathtaking views of the ski slopes. The hotel also provided convenient ski storage and rental services, making it effortless to gear up each morning without any hassle.

But the real gem? The hot springs. Imagine sinking into steaming outdoor pools while the winter air nips at your face and stars sparkle overhead 🌌. It was the perfect way to recharge.

Beyond the spa, traditional Chinese massages are available just around the corner. The prices are comparable to Thai massages in Hong Kong, making them an option if you’re looking to extend the indulgence.

🚀 Expert Coaching for All Levels

One of the highlights of skiing in Chongli Thaiwoo was the professional and affordable coaching available. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced skier, whether you are Mandarin speaker or English speakers, you always can find a coach to teach you.

On our first day, we signed up with Marco, an Italian instructor who has been part of the Chongli Swiss coaching school for two years. He started us off with the fundamentals, focusing on balance and turning, before gradually introducing more advanced techniques. Marco was patient, highly experienced, and prioritized safety while encouraging steady progress. I did notice that English-speaking coaches tend to adopt a gentler, more supportive approach, which made the learning experience especially enjoyable.

💡 Tip: Don’t hesitate to negotiate prices in China. We managed to secure a rate about one-third lower than the original offer. Opting for a Mandarin-speaking coach can make lessons even more affordable, and many will take students to explore hidden off-route slopes 🌲⛷️ for an extra thrill

❄️ Authentic Snow Experience

Chongli Thaiwoo benefits from a cold climate and dependable snowfall, making it one of China’s premier skiing destinations. Riding the momentum of the 2022 Winter Olympics 🏅, it has earned a reputation as one of Asia’s top ski resorts.

The snow was powdery and soft, perfect for carving smooth, effortless turns. To guarantee consistent coverage throughout the season, the resort supplements snowfall with snowmaking machines 🌨️.

What impressed me most was the variety of terrain. From gentle beginner slopes to steep, adrenaline-pumping runs , there’s something for every level of skier. My personal favorite was gliding through the tree-lined runs 🌲, which added both a sense of adventure 🚀 and a peaceful, meditative atmosphere 🧘.

🏂 Options for Different Ski Levels

Thaiwoo caters to all skill levels, making it a great destination for groups with mixed abilities. The resort divides its slopes into zones:

  • Beginner slopes: Gentle gradients with wide open spaces, ideal for learning and practicing basic turns.

  • Intermediate slopes: Moderate inclines with varied terrain to challenge and improve technique.

  • Advanced slopes: Steep runs and moguls for experienced skiers seeking thrills.

  • Terrain park: Features jumps and rails for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.

During my trip, I began on the beginner slopes and gradually moved to intermediate runs (which I struggled with most of the time 😅) as my confidence grew. For those interested in snowboarding, the resort also offers rental gear and lessons.

🏔️ My Story: A Day on the Slopes

My day started early with a hearty hotel breakfast 🍳☕, fueling me for hours of skiing. After renting equipment 🎿, I met my coach near the base of the mountain. The morning lesson focused on mastering parallel turns ↔️, which was challenging but rewarding.

By midday, I felt more comfortable (and hungry!) and took a break at a cozy café ☕🍫, sipping hot cocoa while soaking in panoramic snow views 🌄.

In the afternoon, I ventured onto intermediate slopes ❄️, savoring the fresh snow and crisp air 🌬️, though I couldn’t quite manage them alone. Still, the quiet moments gliding through tree-lined runs 🌲⛷️ were unforgettable. I ended the day with a relaxing soak in the hotel’s hot tub 🛁, reflecting on the progress I had made.
